Beware! The Blob.

Just over half a century ago,
'The Blob'
made its debut on the big screen.

Have you seen the movie?
(Shhhh....I have not.)
This old-time horror movie
was designed for the drive-in set
and starred the as-of-then unknown
Steve McQueen.

Since celebrating the movie this year
with the people of
the classic Pennsylvania town of Phoenixville,
I think it is time I finally watched it.

Beginning in the year 2000,
 the residents of Phoenixville
have been reenacting a scene from the movie annually.
Movie-goers fill the Colonial Theater -
the recently renovated original theater in the film -
and all run screaming from the theater!

The following day
the Blobfest continues in the form of a street fair.

The streets are lined with classic cars,

vendors of all types of horror memorabilia,

Blob souvenirs,

costumed characters,

and musical entertainment.

What I loved about Blobfest,
is that the event is not like big, massive city festival.
Instead, it is true, small town America at its best!

I love the quaintness of Phoenixville,
and this festival fits in perfectly with the essence of the town.

The Blob Fest, huh? I'm afraid I would never be able to attend any of the re-enactments. I can't even watch a horror movie in the daylight.
I do love the small town celebrations, however.

That looks like a wonderful town. I must confess that I like The Blob movie. I always thought it would be fun to see where it was filmed but I never went. :( You did a great job of bringing it to life! Really nice shots!

Crazy! So did you go see the movie or are you going to rent it and watch it alone some night when it's late and the floors and walls get creepy and creaky?

That's a really cool event. Different form the usual get-togethers of people. I like it.

No horror movies for me, even with Steve McQueen - but the festival looks fun:-)

Awwww... this might be my favorite post yet if only because it brings back so many great memories for me. I used to go to college in Phoenixville (VFCC) and would watch second run movies at the Colonial. I'm so glad to hear that they've not only refurbished the place, but that they are celebrating their one claim to fame. I wish they were doing that back in '90 when I was there!
