The Great Thaw

Sunday morning was spectacular.
The ice covered trees glistened in the sun.

It was the day after the dreaded wintry-mix.
That's what we get when the meteorologists don't know what to say we'll get.

This wintry-mix was snow turned freezing rain.

The freezing rain left a coating on all things.
And it was beautiful.

As the sun warmed things up,
large drops of melting ice fell down
along with clumps of ice.
The sound it made was pretty cool too.

I was dodging the ice cycles which were falling like arrows all around me.

Then I went off to church where there was an impromptu
candlelight service as the result of a power outage.
That was pretty special too.

Wonderful close-ups and views of ice and snow. The depth of field is also amazing and works really well. Somehow the cold becomes very cozy and inviting.

Very nice pics, pretty to see but not always live in.

The ice is absolutely beautiful! But I know it can be devastating to trees when the branches get so heavy and start falling. Hope that didn't happen where you are.

As much as I hate ice, it is pretty when it is one coats everything, as long as you don't have to drive in it.

It has been so long since I have seen an icicle!

The blue sky is amazing in the top and bottom shots. Falling icicles were hitting my car all the way to church on Sunday and I wished that I woke up earlier to take some pictures.:-)
