What a great day for National Public Garden's Day -
Cloud cover diffused the light beautifully eliminating harsh shadows.
I used my Canon 7D -
which is my typical walk around camera.
I used three different lenses today.
I started with the Canon EF 8-15 mm, F4L, Fisheye.

Before you run out and buy a fisheye lens...don't.
A fisheye lens is more of a toy.

If you already have a collection of lenses
and money burning a hole in your pocket then
by all means go ahead and get one.

Probably my favorite shot of the day. Sigh.

Otherwise spend your time learning your camera inside out first.
Then buy something more practical.
Once you buy one, a fisheye will not be on your camera often.

Next I changed lenses to the Canon EF 100mm F 2.8L Macro

Again, I don't recommend running out and getting a Macro lens either.
Although this lens is more practical than a fisheye.

You don't HAVE to use this lens as a macro.

I would still focus my purchasing power more practically.

And finally I used my oldest lens still in use...
embarrassingly it also has a very nasty scratch on it.
(- Because I removed the protective filter and forgot to put it back on. Ugh.)
Tamron 18-270mm - I typically use this lens as a walk around lens.

The great thing with this lens is
you hardly ever miss a shot because you aren't busy changing lenses
since it gives you a wide range of focal lengths.
*This lens can only be used with a crop sensor camera - thus the 7d.

However, as your eye becomes more discerning
you WILL notice a difference in image quality compared to a Canon L lens.

So what lens to add to your arsenal?
That's the difficult question we all ask ourselves.

My most used lens is the Canon 24-105 F4L
And I didn't want to buy it originally because it was F4!
But I LOVE that lens.
It is my go-to lens and almost always on my Canon 5d

I love the Canon 70-200mm F2.8 too,
but the thing is so darn heavy I hate to use it
because I get tired carrying it.
I DO have some lenses I am selling -
mostly because I really don't use them anymore.
Let me know if you are interested in one and I will get you more info.
One of these days I will get them on Ebay.
Canon 50mm F1.8
Canon 50mm F1.4
Canon 24-70mm F2.8L
What is your favorite lens?

I love the 24-105, it was my fav - amazing image quality without breaking the bank. After switching to Sony, I kept my wide angle because I knew I wouldn't get any $$ for it. I also kept my 100mm macro because it's good glass and works on the Sony with an adapter. My walk-around lens is a Zeiss 16-70 f4. Not quite the reach on the 24-105 but tack sharp.
These are all stunning! I had the luck of cloud cover at Longwood last weekend, really helps with garden photos!
I have oooooed ahhhhhhhhd over all these stunning photos. the ant was my favorite until I got to the flowers hanging over the rustic chairs. I LOVE THAT SHOT... glad you put all the info about the lens, and what you use and don't.
3rd place is the fish mouth.
Beautiful pics. That fisheye looks kinda cool, but I wouldn't use it alot either.
I love your fish eye photo and really like the carp photo too!
