Visiting Harry Packer Mansion, Jim Thorpe, PA

Here is a little peek inside the
Harry Packer Mansion
now operating as a Bed and Breakfast
in Jim Thorpe, PA

Does it look a little familiar?
It was the inspiration for Walt Disney World's
Haunted Mansion.
( Personally, I don't see it.
But it has most similarity to Paris' Phantom Manor)
Maybe that is why they host
Murder Mystery Weekends!

In 1874 this mansion was built as a wedding gift for Harry Packer by his father Asa.
It is right next door to Asa's mansion.
I guess he wanted to keep an eye on the newlyweds.

Here is the view from Harry's window of
Asa's mansion.

Asa Packer made his fortune as the founder of
Lehigh Valley Railroad and Lehigh University.

So, come on in and sit a spell,
cause you actually can!
Just purchase a glass of wine in the room across the way
and enjoy it while soaking up the surroundings.

Or you could sit here with that wine.

Thanks to Robert and Patricia Handwerk.
who purchased the property in disrepair in the 1980's
and restored it to it's glory.
How sad it would have been to have lost this beauty.

Neat place! The details on the windows are amazing and the vines give the building an eerie feel.

I'm really liking the windows and the looks of it's outer shell. Not much into the Victorian style for decorating, but my mother loved it. She'd have felt like a Queen in there :)

Yes, Harry Packer Mansion looks familiar to me. I took my son to Disney Land in Tokyo many times when he was a little child.
What a fun you trip is!!
I hope to visit this place and stay at Harry Packer Mansion someday!
Thank you for visiting.

This looks like a good place to stay, Rebecca. Next time we come north we might look it up.
That is if we don't fly up to Manchester, N.H. to get a head start on our driving.

Doesn't look haunted to me - just a charming building I'd love to explore! Thanks for sharing.

My husband and I did the murder mystery weekend years ago. It was a blast and spooky.

What wonderful buildings and interiors. I was thinking that place looked familiar. I grew up just a few miles from Disneyland and the Haunted Mansion was my second favorite ride behind the Priates of the Caribbean. :)

Some wedding gift!
Thanks for the tour Rebecca.
Disney's remake is a fine tribute to this beauty.
