Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

Temple University Ambler Campus, House Demolition
Country House

If you have hung around here any length of time
you likely know:

I love history.
I love architecture.
I love old buildings.
I love photographing abandoned buildings.
And...
it breaks my heart
when old beauties are torn down.

The Painter's Gone Fishing

Fifteen years ago when Temple University bought
this old lady in Ambler it was in excellent condition outside.
But left to the elements
without care
it now shows the signs of its forgotten state.

Echos of History

When I look at this house
I see what it once was
and what it could be again with a little lovin'.

The Homewrecker

Morning tea on the wrap around porch.
Warm breezes blowing through the windows.
Happy feet running on the hardwood floors.

Dreamy Breakfast Nook

And holding a hot cup of tea while watching
falling snow through the vintage window panes.

Another One Bites the Dust

I'll fix a hot cup of tea and watch more snow fall today,
but not through vintage window panes.
Yep, more snow is on its way.
Will someone please tell old man winter
this is his season off?!

The evening after I took these photos
the home was used as a practice site for the local fire department.

I am so glad you documented this grand old and beautiful Lady... makes me really sad that they destroyed it. and no matter what they build there, it will not be as beautiful as this. here in FL land is at a premium and people buy 4 million dollar homes and knock them down like this one so they can build and 8 million dollar home... it looks like they did not salvage anything from this old home.. like that beautiful railing inside the home... they could at least save pieces of it to be reused.

Oh, I'm with you! Grew up in Radnor, PA and now live outside of Boston. We just lost a gorgeous old house up the road from us - abandoned and then leveled. One of the few (very few) things that makes me wish I had money...to save old buildings! I knew ours was going to go when I saw they'd removed all the glass....so sad.

While the paint may be pealing, the bones look pretty good. It's a shame. At the least, someone should preserve some of the interior jems.

So sad…You did get some gorgeous pictures though. Do you ever watch Rehab Addict on HGTV? She takes old houses and restores them to resell. It might be one of my favorite new shows.

Oh, so sad - breaks my heart. I'm so glad you got photos of it, at least. I second the recommendation for Rehab Addict. I love that show.
